Family history of the Duke of Albarracín
High above the cliffs of today's Teruel region, the House of Azagra founded the magnificent independent kingdom of Albarracín in the 12th century. With exceptional diplomatic skill, their lords preserved the neutrality between Castile and Aragon for more than a century.
The city became a meeting place for scholars, artisans, and poets of different cultures. Palaces, bridges, and irrigation systems were built by the Señores, which still characterize the cityscape today.
Albarracín is a reminder of tolerance, wise mediation, and the ability to create lasting prosperity and beauty even in a barren landscape.
