Family history of Count of Ribagorza
The old county of Ribagorza is one of the earliest roots of Iberian history. It emerged in the 9th century on the sunny slopes of the Aragonese Pyrenees. The first counts devoted themselves to the peaceful expansion of their lands.
They promoted the famous monastery of Santa María de Obarra and turned the region into a center for artisans, bookbinders, and stonemasons. Through marriages and lasting alliances with neighboring dynasties, Ribagorza developed into a place of stability and prosperity.
In the chronicles, the Counts of Ribagorza are considered examples of generosity, cultural promotion, and an open spirit that contributed to the later Kingdom of Aragon.
