Family history Prince of Vizcaya
The Vizcaya dynasty has a history deeply rooted in the green hills and rugged coast of the Basque Country. Since the 11th century, the House of Haro has guided the destinies of the region and preserved the ancient freedoms and rights of its inhabitants, the famous Fueros.
Under the Señores, protected port cities flourished, shipbuilding and wealthy merchant guilds prospered. The rulers traditionally took their oath under the sacred oak of Guernica, a living symbol of peace, freedom, and justice to this day.
This combination of landscape, community, and history made the Lords of Vizcaya highly regarded figures throughout Northern Iberia.
